Camilo Mejía

Camilo Mejía is a multidisciplinary artist born in Cali, Colombia, where he spent most of his childhood and teenage years. Although always immersed in music and dance, he remained outside formal institutions until the age of 21, when he began a dance education program in Barcelona. His interest in improvisation and performance led him to SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance). During his final year of studies, he was invited to perform as a guest artist with SEAD’s Bodhi Project Company in Sounds of Trap, a piece choreographed by Cecilia Bengolea.

While in Salzburg, Camilo also took part in L’incoronazione di Poppea, a production of the Salzburg Opera Festival directed by Jan Lauwers, who later invited him to join Needcompany. With Needcompany, he performed in several productions including War and Turpentine, Isabella’s Room, All That Good, and PIE (Probabilities of Independent Events).

In 2020, he joined other interdisciplinary projects such as The Sadness, directed by Ula Sickle, which combines voice, beats, dance, and live music, and Draconis Lacrimae, a collaborative piece by Pablo Lilienfeld and Federico Vladimir.

From 2021 to 2022, Camilo was part of OUTWALKERS, a work directed by Moya Michael that premiered at KVS. He is currently touring with Cherish Menzo’s latest creation, D̶A̶R̶K̶MATTER.
In 2023, Camilo began developing his first solo creation — a research project exploring the topic of salsa — titled VAIVÉN. The piece premiered in April 2025 at Beursschouwburg and at Festival Dias de Dansa in Porto.
